Truly the Most Deluxe - Sinvention Review
Reviewed by Sir on EdenFantasy
In congratulations for writing my 100th review, Edenfantasys graciously sent me this pair of pony hobbles. And they are just absolutely stunning. The pictures look beautiful already, but seeing them in person just honestly made my jaw drop. Feeling their weight and heft, seeing the beautiful locking buckles, and smelling the leather in person just made me love this pair of hobbles all the more. They're certainly not a starter's pair of cuffs, but for me and other intermediate/experienced BDSM enthusiasts, these are a most perfect and satisfying pair of pony hobbles.
Made of black leather and clanky metal hardware, the pony hobbles are quite an intimidating pair. They each have two sets of straps with locking buckles, which means that there are two locking buckles on each cuff. Pretty nifty, right? This gives them an extra tightness that's needed due to how wide they are. The straps are kept in place with metal rivets that are also black, and I assume that they are anodized. Also on the straps are leather loops for the excess straps to be pulled through, in the case of smaller wrists. Each of the straps have five slats for adjustment that are spaced 3/8" apart. This allows for ankles/wrists sized from a little under 7" to 11" around, which doesn't give much room for a wide variety of sizes. And since the leather is so firm, it takes a lot of uses to break these in and make them softer, so getting them down to the smaller sizes is a serious pain.
Looped through the straps are huge, 2 1/2" diameter d-rings. The d-rings are extremely large—I've honestly never seen such oversized d-rings on a pair of cuffs. Attached to the d-rings are one oblong link each and then connecting those two oblong links is a swivel link (a total of 12" of metal). What this means is that the two cuffs cannot be taken apart...ever. All of the metal is safely finished and there are no places that could cut or nick the skin, which is really good since they are so oversized that they're sure to touch some part of the body.
The hobbles are each huge. Really, I mean it—they're each 4" in width, and made of this really, really thick leather (about 1/8" thick, and in two layers). The inner layer is much softer and comfortable (a double layer of full grain cowhide, as Sinvention's website states) than the outer layer, which is very firm and not the most movable material. The two straps that the cuffs close by are made of the same firm leather as the outer layer, making it so that these stay in place throughout all types of play.
Something that's really noteworthy about the design of these cuffs is the stitching. Of course, Sinvention always pays really close attention to detail, so it's something that I can really appreciate when I see that those little things that give their products that perfect finishing touch.
With these cuffs, it's very necessary and important for me to talk about comfort. These are not, I must admit, the most comfortable pair of cuffs. Since they're so thick and bulky, they are not only really heavy but also really hot (I recommend keeping a fan on at all times). The inner layer of leather is very soft and smooth though, so the cuffs do not press against the skin in any uncomfortable way. But as I stated before, they are very firm and are not padded, so they may take some getting used to. It's a matter of getting used to them, honestly, that I think makes them "uncomfortable."
Though they are pony hobbles, these do not have to only be used for the ponies out there. They can safely be used for firm, hard, thorough restraint. And these things, when I say that they're heavy, they're damn heavy, so you can be assured that they're sturdy enough for suspension play (but as always, be very careful when delving into this field of restraint). However, if they are being used as what their title suggests they should be, they work quite beautifully in this respect. The clanking of the hardware sort of adds to the sound of the pony trotting, and it really makes for a great scene. Add in a bit gag and a bridle and you're good to go!
For me, these are not only a great set of cuffs for regular wear, but they are also a lifetime investment. The pony hobbles truly are a pair of luxury cuffs, and they're absolutely gorgeous. For the price, I'm definitely happy with them. Would I say that they should be a bit cheaper? Yes. But am I pleased with them even with their high price tag? Most definitely.
