The Implements of Affection in this series were inspired by real flagellation devices that have been used for centuries by wandering ascetics, and by devotees of god knows how many religious sects. In many ways, people put their hearts and souls into the creation of such penitents and disciplinas, and we found someting in their elaborately cruel beauty and their human scale that appealed to them. Maybe it was the simple fact that they had been designed specifically to reduce humans to a state of abject repentance, or alternatively, to elevate them to a state of blissful euphoria. However much you like whips and floggers, you can't honestly make those claims for them.

The Penitent Series is Leatherbeatens's homage to everything the ingenuity of the human mind has devised for the mortification of the sinful flesh. Some are relatively homely and simple, others are insanely intricate. All of them tend to be light, fast, sharp and painful, inducing sensations that don't fit comfortably into the regular old BDSM thud - sting spectrum.
